Slingshot Expands “PunchOut” Ordering Facilities

Procurement PunchOut” is the interaction between a vendor's web storefront and a buyer's procurement application.

Slingshot supports PunchOut when creating either requisitions or purchase orders.  Click a link to access your supplier’s web site.  Shop on the site and check out.  The contents of your shopping cart are returned to Slingshot and added to the current requisition or purchase order.   Once approved, a purchase order is automatically transmitted to the supplier.  

A parameter now allows you to enforce a final buyer review of the PunchOut purchase order before it is transmitted. A second new feature allows you to modify the requisition or purchase order after initial PunchOut by linking back to the supplier’s web site and modifying the shopping cart.  Support is also now provided for multiple PunchOut suppliers on a single requisition. 

“Integrated Web Shopping” added to Procurement Apps

Today’s buyers are increasingly relying on the Internet to streamline procurement processes.  However, many applications still treat the Internet as an external source of information.  Only Slingshot integrates the ability to shop the web for any item on a request or PO.  Simply click a link within Slingshot and a new browser tab opens listing suppliers and prices for the item selected.  A second link allows you to compare you own purchase history for the item including supplier performance.  You can expand your search to include similar items.  When you believe you have identified the source supplier you can “tentatively” add it to the requisition line.  This allows you to analyze multiple alternatives before committing to a purchase.  When you are ready to buy, one click pulls all selected lines for a selected supplier into a new purchase order.

Slingshot Innovates – One-click Document Approval by Email

Slingshot allows requisitions, purchase orders, supplier invoices, P-Card statements and expense reports to be approved on mobile devices, tablet computers or by eMail.  eMail approvals have been enhanced allowing the user to approve or deny approval in the body of the eMail message without logging into Slingshot.  

The user views the document requiring approval and approves or denies approval with one click.

Click the green “Approve Request” button or click the blue “Deny Approval” button.  If the user denies approval a reason is required.  The document owner is notified automatically when the document is approved or approval denied.

Slingshot Expands Mobile Phone Support

Slingshot has converted its native mobile development environments to the cross-platform Apache Cordova toolset (also known as Adobe PhoneGap).  This makes Slingshot’s applications available on all popular phones including Android, IOS, Windows phone, and Blackberry.  The new toolset promises to speed development as Slingshot broadens its mobile offerings.  The “Cordova based” versions of Slingshot’s mobile Apps will be included in release G2-7.3 which will be available in late December.

Slingshot Announces Enhanced “Scalability” for Enterprise Customers

Slingshot has announced support for “horizontal scalability” and failover support.  These changes will be part of release G2-7 scheduled for completion in November.  The new infrastructure provides an enterprise scale for all Slingshot applications.

The enhanced infrastructure allows a limitless number of parallel servers managed in a server farm.  Web client sessions are assigned to a server at sign-on.  Load balancing logic ensures the sessions are distributed across servers in an efficient manner.  If a server fails its sessions are automatically distributed to other servers.  Background tasks can also be distributed over any number of “background processors”. (The Slingshot background processor is a Windows service that can be installed either alongside the Slingshot web application or on a dedicated machine.)

Slingshot Innovates: Expansion of Search Capabilities

Slingshot announces the ability to create search formulas for filtering on all search forms.  Search formulas allow the user to select a set of records by specifying filtering criteria at the top of the form.  Formerly, these fields allowed one operator (“<”, ”>” or “<>”) for dates and amounts.  This capability has been expanded to allow the user to specify a formula.  The formula can use operators plus a range or list of values.  Precedence can be controlled with parenthesis.

This capability is easy to use and provides the ability to get an instant answer to virtually any question relevant to the form.  Let’s say you want a list of both the “Blanket” and “Quote” purchase orders which will expire over the next 60 days. The example below shows how the user could create this list.
